Pharmaceutical solvents

Pharmaceutical solvents — IPA, acetone, methanol and MDC — supplied in pharmacopoeial and high-purity grades for API synthesis, crystallisation, coating and cleaning.

Grades / forms
IPA, Acetone, Methanol, MDC
01

Overview

Solvents are used throughout API manufacture: as reaction media, for extraction and crystallisation, for granulation and tablet film coating, and for cleaning equipment between batches. Purity, water content and non-volatile residue matter because solvent impurities can end up in the product.

Isopropyl alcohol, acetone and methanol are supplied in IP, BP or USP grades. Methylene chloride (MDC, dichloromethane) remains important for some extractions and coatings but is increasingly restricted in some markets, so its use should be checked against destination regulations. Residual solvent limits in final products follow ICH Q3C.

Questions

Pharmaceutical solvents, answered.

Yes. IPA, acetone and methanol are supplied in IP, BP or USP grades with tighter limits on water, non-volatile residue and impurities than technical grades.

Methylene chloride is still used in pharmaceutical manufacturing but is increasingly restricted in some countries, particularly for consumer uses. Current rules in the destination market and for the intended use should be confirmed before ordering.

Pharmaceutical-grade solvents are filled into new, clean drums or dedicated containers to prevent contamination from previous contents.

Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Pharmaceutical solvents from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the pharma industry. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.

Every shipment of Pharmaceutical solvents from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
