Overview
MEG lowers the freezing point of water, making it the base of engine coolants and heat-transfer fluids. Reacted with terephthalic acid it becomes polyester fibre and PET; it is also used in alkyd and polyester resins.
In water-based paints and inks it controls drying and freeze–thaw stability; in household products it appears in blends and cleaners.
