Overview
In the presence of oxygen, dilute cyanide dissolves gold and silver as stable complexes, which are then recovered on activated carbon or by zinc precipitation. Almost all primary gold production depends on it.
It is supplied as solid briquettes (≥ 98%) and is highly toxic. Supply is restricted to verified mining and industrial users, and transport, storage and use follow the International Cyanide Management Code and dangerous goods rules.
