Overview
BP-3 is an oil-soluble UV-A/UV-B filter used in sunscreens; BP-4 is water-soluble and protects clear products and coloured cosmetics from fading. Both are also UV stabilisers for plastics and coatings.
Permitted levels are set by cosmetics regulations and vary between markets.
