Overview

Carbomer is dispersed in water and neutralised with an alkali such as triethanolamine or sodium hydroxide, swelling into a clear, high-viscosity gel at very low use levels (0.2–1%). It also suspends particles and stabilises emulsions.

Grades differ in viscosity, clarity and ease of dispersion (e.g. 940, 980 and 'easy-disperse' types).
