Overview

Small additions of lead nitrate to cyanide leach circuits speed up gold dissolution and counter the passivating effect of sulphide minerals, raising recovery. In flotation it activates stibnite and some other minerals.

It is also used to make other lead salts, heat stabilisers and pigments. It is a toxic, oxidising substance handled and shipped under dangerous goods rules.
