Overview
Benzyl chloride transfers a benzyl group to amines, alcohols and other molecules. Its biggest uses are benzalkonium chloride and other quats, benzyl alcohol and benzyl esters, and the plasticiser butyl benzyl phthalate.
It is a lachrymator and toxic, supplied in lined drums and handled under strict controls.
