Borax
Borax (sodium tetraborate pentahydrate or decahydrate) is a boron mineral salt used as a buffer, flux and cleaning agent, and in glass, detergents and water treatment.

Overview
Borax dissolves to give a mildly alkaline, well-buffered solution, which is why it is used for pH control and in cleaning products. Its boron content makes it a key raw material for glass fibre, ceramics and enamels.
The pentahydrate carries more boron per kilogram and is preferred where freight matters; the decahydrate is the traditional form. Both are white crystalline powders.
