Overview
Coconut fatty acid alkanolamides are made by reacting coconut oil or its fatty acids with diethanolamine (DEA) or monoethanolamine (MEA). In surfactant systems they thicken, stabilise foam and add a richer feel, so they are classic additives in dishwashing liquids and shampoos.
Cocamide DEA is a liquid and easy to handle; Cocamide MEA is a waxy solid that must be melted into the hot phase. Some markets restrict DEA-based ingredients because of nitrosamine concerns, so MEA is increasingly used as an alternative. Regulatory status should be checked for the destination market.

Questions
Cocamide DEA / MEA, answered.
Cocamide DEA is a liquid that is easy to cold-blend. Cocamide MEA is a solid that must be melted into the hot phase but is preferred in markets that restrict diethanolamine-based ingredients.
Some regulations restrict cocamide DEA because diethanolamine can form nitrosamines. For example, it appears on California's Proposition 65 list and the EU limits secondary amine content. Status should be checked for each destination market.
Cocamide MEA is melted at about 70 °C into the hot surfactant phase with stirring, then the batch is cooled. Adding it to cold water results in undissolved flakes.
Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Cocamide DEA / MEA from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the personal care & home care industry. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.
Every shipment of Cocamide DEA / MEA from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
