Overview
LABSA is made by sulphonating linear alkyl benzene with sulphur trioxide. On its own it is a viscous, dark, strongly acidic liquid; neutralised with caustic soda or soda ash it becomes sodium linear alkyl benzene sulphonate (LAS), the cleaning workhorse of the detergent industry.
LAS removes oily and particulate soil effectively, foams well, biodegrades and costs less than most alternatives. It is used in spray-dried and dry-mixed detergent powders, dishwash bars and pastes, and liquid detergents. Its calcium salt is an important emulsifier in agrochemical formulations.

Questions
Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid, answered.
LABSA is neutralised with caustic soda, soda ash or other alkalis to form sodium linear alkyl benzene sulphonate. The reaction is exothermic, so LABSA is added gradually to the alkali with stirring and temperature control.
Yes. LABSA ships as UN 2586 (alkylsulphonic acids, liquid), Class 8 corrosive, in UN-approved drums or IBCs.
Yes. Linear alkyl benzene sulphonate made from LABSA is readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions, which is why it replaced the older branched alkyl benzene sulphonates.
Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the personal care & home care industry. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.
Every shipment of Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
