Overview
Magnesium chloride melts ice at low temperatures and is less corrosive to concrete and vegetation than common salt. It binds dust on unpaved roads, is the coagulant 'nigari' in tofu, and is used in Sorel cement and fire-resistant boards.
It is supplied as hexahydrate flakes or pellets (~46–47% MgCl₂), anhydrous, or as brine.
